Mama Shell is my personal pet project. As a mom to three, an avid reader, and book club founder, children’s literacy is something I believe is of paramount importance. Taken from the nickname my foster daughters gave me, “Mama Shell” strives to help kids develop a love of learning. My values in this and all my endeavors are to: Stay Curious, Stay Kind, and Stay Creative. I wrote, illustrated, designed, formatted, and self published Platypus’s Predicament in late 2020. A book about kindness, forgiveness, and friendship, my main goal was to have something to give to my children as a legacy. I am currently in the design phase of my sophomore effort, a book about art and creativity. Stay tuned!

Family Service Society of Marion, Indiana reached out to me asking for illustrations for coloring books, one for children highlighting how they can stay safe, and another for adult survivors of domestic abuse. I was thrilled at the opportunity to help such a wonderful cause. “Sandy’s Adventure in a Safe Community” takes children through a story about Sandy and safe choices, with illustrations they can color. I designed and illustrated each page. “Dear Survivor” is a journal and activity book designed to support and encourage healing in adult survivors. I illustrated and designed the cover and several of the coloring pages contained. See below.
My hometown of Marion, Indiana is known for many things, but the first one that comes to mind is classic car shows. For over 15 years I had the pleasure of designing and illustrating Shirts for many of these car shows, including James Dean Days, Ducktail Run, and last but not least, the Gilead Ministries fundraising car show. Gilead ministers to cancer patients and I was honored to contribute to a cause that is near and dear to my heart. Each year the previous year’s winners would have the distinction of having their car on that year’s shirt. Armed with a photograph of each car, I would illustrate the cars and create a 3-4 color design suitable for the screen printing process. I also designed the back of the shirt, converting (and sometimes creating) the sponsoring local businesses' logos into 1 color for screen printing.
